Jefferson County Jail Roster Search
The local inmate search starts with the Jefferson County Sheriff inmate roster disclaimer. That page links to current inmates and to people released within the last 48 hours. The roster is part of the Jefferson County Sheriff website, not the Kansas court case portal. It is useful for custody status, booking context, and jail contact planning, while court outcomes, warrants, and criminal case filings remain separate records.
The official disclaimer matters. Jefferson County states that detention information is collected, maintained, and provided for convenience, but the Detention Center cannot certify its accuracy or authenticity. A reader should not treat a roster listing as proof that a charge was filed, that a person was convicted, or that a bond amount is still valid. For court charge details, use the District Court case path or the sheriff and court phone fallback when status is urgent.
The Sheriff roster disclaimer page is shown in the image below as the gateway to Jefferson County inmate records.
That disclaimer is the reason custody information should be confirmed before travel, bond payment, or legal action.
Use the Jefferson County Inmate Roster
The roster has two practical paths: a current custody list and a recent release list. The current list is for people who appear to be held at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. The 48-hour release list is for short-term confirmation after a person leaves custody. If a person does not appear, check spelling, try the release path, and use the custody fallback sources before assuming the person was never booked.
- Open the Sheriff inmate roster disclaimer and read the notice about non-certified information.
- Select the current inmate roster for people now listed in local custody.
- Use the 48-hour release roster when the person may have bonded out, been released, or transferred.
- Review the list context, name, image area, profile link, charges, and booking or release sorting.
- Call the Sheriff's Department at (785) 863-2765 when the roster result affects safety, pickup, bond, or court timing.
The current inmate roster image below shows the public custody list path.
For a person just released, the current roster may be the wrong place to look, so the release list should be checked next.
Jefferson County Roster Fields
The official research capture found roster controls rather than a full open search form. The current roster URL sorts by booking time descending, and the 48-hour release URL sorts by release time descending. A search path exists on the sheriff site, but live field labels were not fully visible in the research session, so the table below uses only confirmed roster controls.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Options / Format Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Current Inmates | Link / tab | No | Opens current roster sorted by booking time descending. |
| 48 Hour Release | Link / tab | No | Opens people released within the last 48 hours. |
| Search path | Text search path | No | The /inmate-roster/search/ path exists, but live field labels were not fully captured. |
| Sort by booking time | Sort | No | Current roster URL includes booking_time=desc. |
| Sort by release time | Sort | No | Release roster URL includes release_time=desc. |
| View Profile | Link | No | Profile links are visible in sheriff roster modules. |
The 48-hour release roster is the official companion to the current jail list.
Recent release data helps separate a stale custody assumption from a current jail hold.
What Jefferson County Inmate Records Show
A public roster entry is a custody record, not the full criminal court file. The research capture found list and profile elements such as name, image area, View Profile link, list context, booking or release sort, and charges. It did not confirm cell or pod data, medical flags, protective custody, or other private jail management fields, so those should not be expected in public Jefferson County inmate records.
The charge text in a jail roster should be read as an intake or custody clue. It may describe the booked offense, warrant reason, or hold basis at the time of booking, but it does not answer whether the County Attorney filed the same charge, amended it, dismissed it, or resolved it by plea or trial. Bond can also change after a first appearance or later court order. For that reason, anyone comparing jail information with court records should match the name, date, case number if shown, and the court record before drawing a conclusion.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | The listed inmate name as published by the Sheriff roster. |
| Photo or image area | A booking image, placeholder, or blank image area when available. |
| View Profile | A link to more roster detail when the public profile is available. |
| Current or released context | Whether the person appears on the current custody list or recent release list. |
| Booking or release sort | The time-based order used by the current and 48-hour release lists. |
| Charges | Booked or roster charge text when shown, not the final court disposition. |
| Accuracy notice | The Detention Center does not certify the roster's accuracy or authenticity. |
Use the roster charge field as a lead, then check Jefferson County arrest records and charges or the District Court case file for prosecution status.
Jefferson County Jail Contact
The Sheriff's Office is the contact point for jail custody, roster questions, police report pickup, and non-emergency detention questions. The jail page states that the Jail Division receives persons arrested and taken into custody for booking and incarceration. It houses pretrial detainees, sentenced local inmates, post-conviction inmates awaiting Kansas Department of Corrections transport, inmates from surrounding counties, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Detention Center
1360 Walnut
Oskaloosa, KS 66066
(785) 863-2765
Office hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Jail staff handle receiving and intake, computer book-in, fingerprinting, photographing, searching, clothing change-out, and housing assignment. Classification controls the housing location, and the jail page states that male and female inmates are housed separately at all times.
That intake process is separate from the court process. A person may be booked at the jail before a first appearance, after a warrant arrest, while waiting on transport, or while serving a local sentence. The jail can answer custody and facility-rule questions, but the Clerk of the District Court is the better source for filed criminal cases, hearing dates, and court orders. When a roster entry points to a warrant or failure to appear, confirm both the Sheriff status and the District Court status before assuming the issue is cleared.
The Jefferson County jail information page is the official source for jail rules even though its manifest screenshot was not successful.
Note: The research found a Sheriff transition note, so pages avoid naming a current sheriff unless the live homepage is rechecked.
Jefferson County Inmate Visitation
Jefferson County jail visitation is video-based under the official jail page reviewed for this build. In-person visits are suspended until further notice. Video visits last 25 minutes and begin at the top of the hour and half past the hour. Visits cannot be scheduled during meals or lockdown times, and visitation may be suspended by the Sheriff for any reason.
| Visit Type | Schedule / Availability | Cost | Rules |
|---|---|---|---|
| In-person visits | Suspended until further notice | Not applicable | Official jail page says all visits are currently video. |
| Remote video | 7 days a week, not during meals or lockdowns | $0.20 per minute | 25-minute visits; register and set 24 hours ahead. |
| On-site video kiosk | Every day except Monday and Friday | Free | Kiosks are at the Sheriff's Office; two on-site visits per week on separate days. |
| Attorney or legal mail | No public attorney visit schedule located | Not listed | Legal mail is handled separately and opened in the inmate's presence for contraband checks. |
Visitors must register and be approved through InmateSales or a Sheriff's Office kiosk. Customer service is listed as (866) 340-7879. Inmates must check the kiosk and be ready for visits. The Sheriff's Office says it does not control refunds or rescheduling, and inmates on disciplinary lockdown cannot visit.
Mail Money and Tablet Rules
Mail must come through the U.S. Postal Service. Hand-delivered letters, notes, and cards are not accepted. Incoming mail must include the inmate's full name and the sender's full name and address. Non-legal mail is opened and scanned for contraband, and any incoming mail may be refused and returned. Legal mail from courts, licensed attorneys, and agencies is scanned for contraband and opened in the inmate's presence.
- Mail between Jefferson County inmates is prohibited.
- Mail between an inmate at another facility and a Jefferson County inmate is prohibited.
- Contraband includes glitter, stickers, rope, string, illegal substances, altered mail, or safety threats.
- Stamps and writing materials are not accepted in incoming mail.
- Photographs may be accepted if not obscene, pornographic, or illegal.
Money can be placed on an inmate account through the Sheriff's Office lobby kiosk or JailATM. Money orders are accepted by mail and placed in the inmate account. Cash and personal checks are not accepted through mail. AXXS tablet funds are handled by Combined Public Communications through InmateSales or by phone at (877) 998-5678, and tablet funds are non-transferable.
The jail page also states that Jefferson County Sheriff's Office staff cannot add money to accounts or fix service and transaction problems for tablet accounts. Those questions go to Combined Public Communications. That distinction is important when a deposit does not appear right away, because the local jail may be able to confirm custody but may not be able to reverse a vendor transaction or move tablet funds to a commissary account.
State and Federal Custody Searches
A missing Jefferson County inmate roster result does not prove the person is free from all custody. The local jail can house pretrial detainees, post-conviction inmates awaiting transport, surrounding county inmates, and ICE detainees, but people may later move to state prison, federal custody, or another jurisdiction. The local roster should be checked first for current Jefferson County custody, then the statewide or federal custody source should be used when the person is no longer local.
KDOC KASPER is the better fit after a person is sentenced to state prison or appears in the supervised Kansas corrections population. Its disclaimer says status can change and information is updated each working day, excluding weekends. The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator is the better fit after a federal sentence or federal transfer. The KBI offender registry is different again: it is for registered sex, violent, and drug offenders, not a jail custody list. These sources should not be merged into one "inmate" answer because they serve different legal and custody purposes.
| Custody Source | Use It For | Official Path |
|---|---|---|
| Jefferson County Sheriff roster | Current local jail custody and 48-hour releases | Sheriff inmate roster |
| KDOC KASPER | State prison residents and supervised Kansas corrections status | KASPER offender search |
| Federal Bureau of Prisons | Federal inmates after transfer to federal custody | BOP inmate locator |
| KBI offender registry | Registered sex, violent, and drug offenders, not jail custody | KBI offender registry |
The Sheriff also provides an official mobile app page. The Jefferson County Sheriff app page links to app downloads, and the manifest image below shows that official app channel.
The app should be treated as a Sheriff communication channel unless a store listing confirms a specific app-only inmate feature.
The Sheriff app Google Play short link is also assigned to Jefferson County inmate records in the manifest.
Because app-only roster functions were not confirmed in the research, the public website roster and phone fallback remain the documented custody search path.
